MIDDLEFIELD — Capital Planning Committee moves to brief selectboard on approaching maintenance and capital needs. Chair Jay Swift proposed handing off data gathered by liaisons to town officials, using the expiring town hall roof warranty as an example of proactive maintenance saving money; members agreed unanimously to develop both quantitative spreadsheets and qualitative presentations. The committee discussed 800 frequency radio replacements for Fire, Police, and Highway departments (five-year transition window), a transfer station grant for a cardboard compacter (with the revolving account potentially increased to $25,000 at the May 1 annual town meeting), and proposed a "living document" maintenance schedule for all town buildings.
Chair Swift stressed the committee will not present at the May 1 annual town meeting.
